Mother of Soldier Killed In Afghanistan Attends Homecoming
Posted: Friday, July 23, 2010

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – Thirty-seven soldiers from Washington’s 5th Stryker Brigade died in Afghanistan over the past year. Those soldiers were honored yesterday at a homecoming ceremony at Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma. Even though it was painful, several grieving families attended the homecoming - including Victoria Walz. Her son Ian was killed last October. We introduced you to her yesterday. Correspondent Austin Jenkins followed Walz as she met with some of her son’s fellow soldiers.

Victoria Walz: “I’m glad I’m here to help with some of the closure. Ya, I feel good. I do. Very glad I came.”

That was Victoria Walz whose son Ian was killed in Afghanistan last year. She attended [yesterday’s] homecoming ceremony for the 5th Stryker Brigade.
