Four Washington-Based Soldiers Killed In Afghanistan
Posted: Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Joint Base Lewis McChord, Wash. - It’s the deadliest attack on Washington-based soldiers in nine months. Four members of the 17th Fires Brigade have been killed in Southern Afghanistan. Correspondent Austin Jenkins reports that Facebook offers a haunting window into the danger the soldiers faced.

Staff Sgt. Conrad Mora’s Facebook page reads: “currently in Afghanistan clearing the roads of things that blow us up.” Mora is among the four soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma killed in an IED attack Saturday. Also killed were Sgt. Daniel Lim, Specialist Joseph Bauer and Private First Class Andrew Hand. The soldiers were all in their 20s. They deployed to Afghanistan last fall as part of a small 250 troop contingent. Other members of their Brigade went to Iraq and have just returned home. This attack has marred that celebration. The Brigade’s official Facebook page is now filling up with condolences and prayers. “Rest in Peace and thank you for your sacrifices,” reads one post. Not since October of last year have so many Lewis-McChord soldiers been killed in a single attack.
