Northwest Public Radio-Richland Bureau Salary: Annual salary $34,000 to $36,000, DOQ

Summary of Duties/Qualifications

Reports To:       Program Director, Northwest Public Radio
(Edited by Northwest Public Affairs Network Editor)

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

                  85% (E)      Gather, write, edit and produce radio news stories.  Produce spot and feature reports for use in newscasts and in public affairs programs for Northwest Public Radio and Northwest Public Affairs

                  5% (E)      Maintain Richland studio facilities.

                  5% (E)      Participate in Northwest Public Radio events and on-air fundraising efforts.

                   5%         Perform other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated experience in producing news in a newsroom environment on a daily basis.  Demonstrated skills in interpersonal communications.  Ability to write, produce, edit, and deliver spot and feature news reports.  Ability to operate standard and digital radio equipment.  Computer competency and experience with digital editing programs.  Bilingual, Spanish/English speaker preferred.

ESSENTIAL WORK COMPETENCIES: Self-starter able to work productively without direct supervision. Ability to operate within a fast-moving environment, which includes team members who are geographically separated from each other. Ability to maintain high journalistic standards under deadline pressure, including the highest standards of balance and fairness.  Ability to form strong relationship with relevant local decision makers.  Ability to generate story ideas and develop story projects. Excellent oral and written skills.  Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Must have on-air presence compatible with NWPR sound.  

WORK CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Extended work on the telephone and computer required.  Travel using personal vehicles required.  Must have valid driver’s license. Hours may vary according to news demands.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, mass communications or closely related field and two years full-time professional reporting experience, which includes experience in a newsroom environment gathering, writing, editing and producing news, spot and feature reports; and a valid driver’s license.  Experience in print, television and/or radio news reporting or other related news gathering experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for education and professional radio experience. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience in public radio news reporting, professional news journalism experience, a working knowledge of MS-Windows/DOS computer operating systems and software, experience in digital audio editing; and who are bilingual in Spanish/English.
