Washington native Ashley Rockwell grew up in the Tri-Cities. While in high school, she studied Radio Broadcasting  at the vocational school Tri-Tech. As a freshman at Washington State University, Ashley began announcing at Northwest Public Radio, and has continued in that role even past graduation. Now the holder of degrees in neuroscience and psychology, she hopes to pursue a career where she can combine her love for science and radio.

Ashley believes radio is one of the most fascinating media formats, and is especially taken with the possibilities of using sound alone. An avid public radio listener, some of her favorite programs include Radiolab, On The Media, Snap Judgment, This American Life, The Diane Rehm Show, Here and Now, To the Best of Our the Knowledge and Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me.

Ashley loves spending time with friends and family playing games, watching movies and eating. She is engaged to her high school sweetheart and NWPR co-worker Kevin Rinker. They plan to marry this summer. She also enjoys the challenge of creating gluten-free vegan meals to accommodate food allergies. Ashley is also an ardent ice hockey fan! She began the spot in middle school, and loves everything about it.
