Evan Schmitt

Announcer

Evan was born while the TV series Northern Exposure was filmed in his hometown of Roslyn, WA. He got started in radio broadcasting in 2010 while pursuing a degree in Communication at the University of Washington.

He had a weekly dance/electronic show on the student-run, Internet radio station Rainy Dawg Radio. He also was a member of the UW Men’s Glee Club. Upon graduation in 2012, Evan moved to Pullman where he started volunteering at Northwest Public Radio, absorbing information and being useful wherever he could. He enjoys public radio because he loves the feeling of learning something new and interesting.

Growing up on the edge of the woods, Evan is an active and avid outdoorsman, skiing and biking even before he went to kindergarten, and later ran competitively in high school. As a former competitive cyclist, he’s established himself in the local bicycle racing community as one of “The Voices of Bike Racing.” Throughout the summer, he announces dozens of cycling, running and multi-sport events throughout the region. He also has produced three documentary films about bicycle racing.

Evan rides his bike to work almost everyday (barring unsafe road conditions) and enjoys good music in any genre, and was once lead trumpet in a jazz band. In his free time, he likes reading, exploring the outdoors and being around loved ones. Good food is also on his list of life's pleasures.
