Robin Rilette

Music Director & Classical Music Host

Oregon native Robin Rilette came to work for NWPR in 1989 as a graduate from Portland State University, where she began her radio career as a volunteer for Oregon Public Broadcasting. Three years after her arrival here she became the station’s Music Director.

Robin hosts Classical Music with Robin Rilette from 9:00 to noon as well as concerts around the Northwest five or six times a year. Meeting listeners and helping to support the more than 20 symphonies in the Northwest is one of the favorite parts of her job.

Robin does not own a computer. She is not a Luddite–rather, she’s a lover of travel and that love keeps getting in the way. She has been trying to save up for a computer for some time now, but whenever she gets close, an opportunity to travel seems to come up and there goes the piggy bank. Until the next trip, she hikes with her canine buddy, reads voraciously, takes in a movie now and then and creates more garden beds than she can possibly manage.

The Classics Rock with the Bottom Line Duo

Credit Photo by GH KIM Photography

From “Walk like an Egyptian” to “Flight of the Bumblebee” the Bottom Line Duo break down musical stereotypes with humor and artistry,  and they do it on recycled instruments!  Okay, the instruments are just plain old, but you get the idea.  You can catch this husband and wife, bass and cello duo at Englewood Christian Church in Yakima this Thursday afternoon, April 4th, at 1:30.

Check out their cool rendition of "Walk Like an Egyptian."  The bass makes for a cool a percussive instrument!

Interview With Ryan Hare, WSU Bassoonist & Music Professor

Orchestral music and sports go together like a horse and carriage, right?  Well, that may not be the first connection that springs to mind but inspiration comes in many forms.  Just ask Ryan Hare, a bassoonist and an associate professor of music at Washington State University.  He stopped by the Northwest Public Radio studios recently to speak with Robin Rilette about the world premiere of his piece “Maracanazo.”
