Candidates For Wash. Governor Await More Vote Tallies
The two candidates for Washington governor are still awaiting more voting tallies in an election contest that remains to close to call. At this hour, with votes still being counted, Democrat Jay Inslee leads Republcan Rob McKenna 51.1 percent to 48.9 percent. The McKenna campaign is hoping for a turn-around in the numbers.
Statistically, it is still within the realm of possibility. The reality is that Democrats think that they have a victory here. But they also think it’s going to be a one-point margin for Jay Inslee.
At this point, it does not look like a repeat of 2004 when there was a contested election outcome. To get to automatic recount territory, the two candidates have to be within a half a percentage point.
My gut is we know by the end of the week if not before.
The vote count from populous King County is now coming in, with little change so far in the percentage of votes for either candidate.
