Boeing Machinists Optimistic Despite Layoffs

Boeing announced today Friday it will lay off 800 machinists in the Puget Sound area this year. The company says workforce needs on two of its newest jet programs have been reduced.

FAA Gives Go Ahead For Battery Flight Tests

The Federal Aviation Administration says Boeing can flight test its redesigned 787 battery system. It’s the first step to getting the grounded Dreamliners back in the sky. Marcie Sillman from KUOW Seattle reports.

In a statement, the FAA said Boeing could go ahead with its plan to test a redesigned battery system for the 787. The FAA also gave the green light to limited flights for two aircraft that will have test versions of the new systems.

Boeing CEO Offers Apology To Customers Over 787 Problems

Boeing’s top executives say that at this point, they don’t expect significant financial fallout from the grounding of the 787 Dreamliner. Federal regulators halted flights of the plane after two serious battery malfunctions.
