Helix, Ore., Returning To Normalcy After Devastating Mud Flow

Helix, Ore., residents have most of their summer programs back online and many buildings back in service after a massive mud flow ripped through much of downtown. A storm sent rivers of mud down early the morning of July 16.

Schoolchildren From Japan's Tsunami Zone Get Respite In Northwest

Rebuilding has gone slowly in tsunami-ravaged Minamisanriku, Japan.

Eight junior high students and their teachers from the Japanese tsunami zone arrive in Seattle Thursday. It's an unusual disaster relief effort. The schoolchildren are being treated to a free trip to escape the still difficult conditions at home, at least temporarily.

Tsunami Dock To Be Dismantled, Removed

A piece of tsunami debris, a dock that washed ashore near Newport, will be dismantled and removed by a Vancouver, Wash., company.

The days are numbered for the massive Japanese dock that washed up on an Oregon beach earlier this month. The Oregon State Parks Department announced Tuesday that it's accepted a bid from a Vancouver, Wash., salvage company to break apart the dock and remove it.
